Happy Monday feminausts! We hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and a fabulous Meredith Music Festival (if you were so lucky to attend). I haven’t done one of these for quite a while so bear with me… and as usual, we do not necessarily endorse the content but want you to have a good think about it all the same!
‘She who must not be named’ Award… the winner is Vaginas!!!
This has got to be my favourite title for a feminist protest event… MUFF MARCH! On 10 Dec (Saturday morning) in London, a group of fabulous people marched against ‘designer vagina’ surgery. The protest is marching against the growing (and terrifyingly fast at that!) trend of women having cosmetic surgery on their lady bits due to dissatisfaction at what it all looks like – or doesn’t look like. For a fabulous documentary about this very issue please don’t hesitate to watch The Perfect Vagina. And if you’re still enthused, check out MONA (down in Hobart) for some more work on the diversity of everyone’s map of tassie.
Birth control, it’s all about vaginas. So get angry ladies, these manufacturers are taking your V-Jay-Jay’s on a ride…
Powerful vaginas… in pretty clothing.
The Power of Language
Great article looking at the language of sex offenders and lads’ mags.
It really can be very difficult to talk to little girls in a way that doesn’t focus on their appearance, don’t you agree Lisa Bloom?
The Purity Myth and the evils of feminism… IT’S CHILD ABUSE PEOPLE!
It’s high time that we women start being more needy and reject any one who makes us feel like we don’t deserve have our needs met and desires fulfilled.
Great feminist initiatives!
EEKKK! So exciting! YWCAs in the Pacific are doing amazing things to support young women’s leadership… “Following the successful launch of the Pacific Young Women’s Leadership Strategy, the strategy reference group, consisting of representatives from World YWCA, Pacific YWCAs, Fem’LINK Pacific, UNFPA, UNICEF, Fiji Women’s Rights Movement and the Pacific Youth Council, met again to discuss how the key areas outlined in the document could be moved forward.”
Not really feminist but… written?kitten! oh my god you get to see a kitten every time you type 100 words? that’s crazy, how inspiring! if this isn’t going to get to me write 100 words for no reason then I don’t know what will. Wait… I should make it feminist. Did you know that Mission Impossible is an awful, awful film? Mainly because it’s a homage to Tom Cruise and that all of the female characters are merely decoration and/or used so that TC can play out a rape fantasy. It’s really quite upsetting. Luckily this man doesn’t have a young wife or small daughter to mould. Crap. Oi… where’s my kitten? that’s a bloody dog!
Not a great feminist initiative actually… paying women to have babies ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. What do you do when there’s no infrastructure for the babies when they’ve all grown up?
There has been a lot of articles about lately looking at what makes a successful marriage. Here’s a good one from Jezebel.. just don’t be a dick.
And one from the Sam de Brito… don’t be boring.
Black women aren’t even marrying… wait, neither are black men! Who do I blame??
