Welcome to Monday feminausts and welcome to a new financial year! Everyone ready to get their tax on?! I love tax time. I LOVE e-tax. I love filling in all those little boxes, finding all those things I can claim and I REALLY love getting a whopping great tax return at the end of it. Since AWID I’m also far more aware of how our economic system disadvantages women so I’m REALLY looking forward to having a good poke around in some tax documents to see what I can see.
In the mean time, please enjoy our links for this week and be sure to comment if something has sparked some interest. Or better still, write us an article about it!
Also, please disseminate far and wide that we are establishing the feminaust fund, to be a trust fund for the future of Australian feminism. We’re seeking applications for directors on the board!
Spectacular blogger Chella Quint, author of Adventures in Menstruating takes FemFresh to task for being completely crap about what to call a vagina. Personally, I like to call mine… My Vagina (also see Pray the Vagina Back to Hell for loads more vagina talk). In her article in Ms Magazine she gives us a neat little synopsis of what’s been going down in Britain in response to the American brand’s inability to use correct words… kinda reminds me of the Michigan State House… Whoop Whoop Chella, keep up the good fight lady.
Big shout out to my lovely for putting this whole affair in my inbox.
The European Commission recently released a teaser video for their new campaign to encourage young women into science. Theoretically it was to smash stereotypes about scientists but only really managed to reinforce stereotypes about women. So there’s a lab load of responses to this whole affair, one of the best (mostly because it deals with it succinctly AND suggests alternative options AND is pro-young people!) is this little piece from through the looking glass.
