Welcome to HomoQueer Thursday ~ 4th October 2012

In light of the recent tragedy of the federal parliament failing to pass the Marriage Equality Bill, we’re going to celebrate all things HomoQueer today. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, sexuality and gender issues and feminism are natural allies and we should continually and repeatedly remember to support and encourage each other in all that we do. I’m hoping to continue to bring our attention to the intersections of feminism and other social justice issues as I get back into the swing of being an active co-webmistress over the coming weeks (you may have noticed I’ve been a bit…. absent of late…) xxx

The Governor of California has just signed a bill that bans the use of curative or reparative therapies in minors to “fix” their sexuality or gender issues. This is a fantastic step towards better mental health options for young sexuailty and gender diverse people who are forced to undergo therapies that have reportedly led to increased suicide, self harm and long term mental health issues. YAY!

And there’s clearly something in the water coz the British Association for Counselling and Psychotheraphy has deemed conversion therapies unethical and written to their 30,000 members to tell them as much!

Discriminate or Celebrate?

Why can men who have sex with men still not donate blood?!

Embracing and celebrating the trans-feminists.

A report tabled to the European Parliament claims that discrimination against trans people is rampant in EU countries. The report has also included intersex people for the first time.

Alternative view

Is the most alien life form we could imagine a genderless one?

Gay men should fight for gender equality through a men’s rights agenda…. quite frankly I think this is bollocks. In my view, feminism as a concept serves men who live outside of the gender binary or traditional gender or sexuality spectrum as much as it serves women… but I guess I understand if this is sometimes a challenging idea to get your head around. Either way, I think this premise needs challenging and expanding upon….. any takers???

Standard view

How could I go past a website called queerfeminism.com I mean… it’s kinda all we’re talking about eh?! Focusing on areas where the feminist movement could improve, including queer/trans inclusion, anti-racism, disability, and decolonisation. Whoop!

“Autostraddle was founded way back in March 2009 in part to push our radical lesbian feminist agenda, obvs.” So have a read of this and learn more about how, why, when and whatevers about Autostraddle and what they’re up to.

And look! Believe it or not, someone already thought of this! Check out this list of links to lesbian feminist sites and articles. COOLZ

Sexy Sexual Sexy-Times

What is sexuality anyway? The always amazing Heather Corinna from Scarleteen has the answer!

And coz I was hanging out on the site…. ok well I spend most of my spare time hanging out on the site, but wharves, here’s Scarleteen’s myths and realities of homosexuality and the like.

Got more….better….other queer/lesbian/gay/homo/feminist links for me?! Send them on through!!! info@feminaust.org xxx
