Welcome to Monday ~ 11 February 2013

apologies for the strong language.Hi darling feminausts, how are you all? I’m moving house soon and have spent all weekend packing up my house. It is a very painful process, as I’m sure you all know.

On to the links from the previous week. Enjoy! Don’t shoot the messenger though.

‘She Who Must Not Be Named’ Award

My Scarlett Heart has brought us the 57th Down Under Feminist Carnival! Pretty spectacular stuff. It’s a great way to check out what other Aussie and Kiwi feminists are blogging about! And submissions for DUFC #58 are already open (such efficient feminists!).

Feminism and pop culture

I love Grimes! And this post lets me do it in a totally feminist way. YIPEE!

No more 30 rock. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Family arrangements

Anne-Marie Slaughter writes about how women’s advancement in the military requires some Military Husbands.

blue milk discusses an article which patronises stay-at-home mums into joining the paid-workforce. Genius idea huh.

Feminist bodies

Am totally in love with The Lady Garden for this post, mainly because she says this:

So, my darlings, what can I tell you? Pour yourself a bourbon, or your self-medication of choice, and think about this. If you’re fat, or thin, or bald, or whatever way you fall outside the beauty norm, take heart. If you left the house today, you were brave, and you deserve a pat on the back. Your body is beautiful.

The Age explores superficial image and its effect on young women.

Demeaning behaviour

Jezebel gives men a helpful guide on how to not be creepy around women.

There’s a shit trend of making the covers of ‘women’s novels’ more ‘girlie’. Insulting much?!
