  1. Nelson Mandela changed my life. I was born in the Transkei, where Mandela did much of his early activism. My father was a human rights activist who worked with Mandela’s allies to expose corruption in the racist apartheid government (as a result we had to move house several times due to death threats). The majority of my life was spent in freshly post-apartheid South Africa and I grew up with Mandela as a central figure. I am now a writer living in Australia and have written a tribute to him for feminist e-zine Discordia, which I’d like to share with all of you here at FeminAust: http://www.discordia.com.au/death-of-a-champion/ Thank you.

  2. I recommend against hessian bags for supermarket shopping as some checkout operators are allergic and I have seen colleges of mine break out in hives just from packing a customer’s groceries. Since the customer is always right an operator can’t decline a person’s green bag just because of allergy, just ask any customer service manager in a supermarket. So I ask you all to be considerate and use cotton cloth bags instead!
