Srinagar, March 02: Demand the implementation of the minimum wage law and the regularization of their services. Hundreds of casual workers from various departments staged a protest on Wednesday.

The protesting casual workers gathered in the press enclave here and waved slogans against the authorities like “We want justice, we want regularization of our services, etc.”

The protesters say that the authorities pay no attention to our problems and, despite working in all seasons; we barely get the salaries we deserve.

Bashir Ahmad, a protester, said they had been working in the department for a long time on meager pay and although we gave our whole lives to the department, we were left unsupervised.

Ahmad said they are facing extreme problems as they have not been paid for months, which is affecting their children’s education.

We donated our blood and sweets to these departments in the hope that our services would be regularized and that we would spend the rest of our lives unmolested.

Protesting casual workers said: “We are the ones carrying out our duties in these difficult times, but we have been left unguarded by political regimes.

Time and time again, we were assured that our services would be regularized, and the day has not yet come.

Another protester holding the fold card which reads: ‘We want justice’. Their counterparts in other states said that their governments have implemented the minimum wage law in favor of their employees and that it is our UT administration that is not implementing the law.

He said that until the authorities finally accept our services, they must implement the minimum wage law in our favor so that we do not face difficulties, agreed Safeena Begum, a student.

One protester said she had worked in the department for fifteen years on a meager salary. She added that, for her, it’s going to be difficult to manage things when the prices of essential things touch the sky.

The protesting casual workers urged the administration to look into the matter and implement the minimum wage law in their favor.
