Manik Sooriyaarachchi Scholarship for Women Entrepreneurs – Lanka Business Online
The Australian High Commission would like to announce the launch of the Manik Sooriyaarachchi Fellowship for Women Entrepreneurs. This scholarship was created to commemorate Manik Sooriyaarachchi, who died tragically, with his daughter Alexandria, during the Easter attacks of 2019.
Manik was an Australian citizen and alumnus of Swinburne University in Melbourne. She was an active member of the Australia-Sri Lanka Alumni group and an enterprising businesswoman who returned to Sri Lanka to contribute to the economic development of the country.
To recognize Manik’s contributions as a woman entrepreneur and as a former Australian, the Manik Sooriyaarchchi Fellowship for Women Entrepreneurs has been established. The scholarship will fund a Sri Lankan woman entrepreneur to undertake a business entrepreneurship degree to graduate certificate level at one of Australia’s top universities. It is expected that one scholarship will be offered each year for the next 5 years. The scholarship will fund course fees and travel and living expenses up to AUD 55,000.
Australian High Commissioner David Holly launched the exchange on April 21, the second anniversary of the bombings.
Applications will be sought from businesswomen and entrepreneurs with at least 5 years of professional experience who have a clear proposition of expanding their current business or starting a new business in sectors that will expand opportunities. for Sri Lankans. We encourage Sri Lankan women entrepreneurs and businesswomen to take this opportunity to undertake professional development in Australia.
