Pasadena Chamber Formally Installs Inaugural Gala President and Trustees Delayed by Pandemic – Pasadena Now

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association celebrated Friday night, finally installing its roster of directors and inaugurating a new board chair John Leano’s tenure after a one-year pandemic postponement.

Raphael Henderson has been officially installed as elected chairman of the board. Other board members include Justin Tsui, Nerissa Sugars, Amir Johnson, Don Schweitzer and Ishmael Trone.

Leano of Bryan’s Cleaners and Laundry was originally named president in July of last year. He will exercise his functions until December 31, 2021.

Léano said Pasadena now that during his tenure, the House made efforts to help not only members but also non-members struggling with the pandemic.

“Many non-members of the chamber came to ask us for help, advice, information, help. And we didn’t turn anyone away just because they weren’t a member of the chamber, ”Leano said.

He said the chamber also did not terminate the membership of those who failed to pay membership fees and offered discounted membership rates to help minority-owned businesses.

Changing restrictions and policies in the event of a pandemic have made it difficult for some companies to adapt to the current situation. To survive this, Leano said a number of companies have been forced to lay off some of their workers.

As Speaker of the House, Leano is committed to ensuring that the organization helps struggling businesses in Pasadena have access to information and resources, including loans and grants available to them, and stay open and reopen safely despite the pandemic.

He also expressed his desire to help businesses navigate the “shifting and fluid” health mandates and guidelines imposed by the government.

To help local businessmen thrive during the pandemic, Leano called on the public to support them by sponsoring the products and services they offer.

“Support your favorite restaurant, support your favorite dry cleaner, of course I’m in this industry so I would say that. Your favorite nail salon, the small business owners, the mom and dads who are there everyday who have made a difference in our lives.

“Support these people and sponsor their business, spread the word, let them know when, you know, you had a good experience and encourage others to support local businesses in Pasadena.”

Leano is the first Filipino-American to lead the board of directors of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

Leano has been involved with the Pasadena Chamber for almost 30 years. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Chamber in 2015 and has served as a member of the Executive Committee and Chair of the Member Services Committee for the past three years.
