SALEM: A 38-year-old man and his assistant were arrested Thursday in Salem for allegedly tricking women into offering them acting roles in movies. The police recovered a hard drive and three laptops from them containing intimate photos and videos of numerous women.

The accused, identified as A Velu Sathriyan, is a resident of Veerappampalayam in Salem and G Jayajothi, 23, is from Indira Nagar in Virudhunagar and was staying at Sooramangalam in Salem.

Police say a 32-year-old man from Mohan Nagar at a steel mill in Salem approached Sathriyan and Jayajothi to get a job. Both promised her that if she paid Rs 30,000, they would offer her an acting role in a film produced by ‘Global Creations’, which was run by them at the Om Sakthi building of the SBI Officers Colony in Sooramangalam.

But she refused to pay and they offered her a role as an office girl for three months, which she accepted. She quit work after they forced her to act in lewd movies and when she went to ask them for her three month salary she found intimate photos and videos of many girls in their office, following to which she filed a complaint at Sooramangalam All Women Police Station.

According to investigator Subbulaxmi, they also recovered shooting equipment and USB keys. “At the moment it is not possible to say how many women there are intimate videos. We are also trying to identify the victims,” she added.

“The accused had posted an ad on social media looking for female actors to star in their films, following which many women approached them,” police officials said. Following this, the defendants were taken to the police station on Thursday and after being brought before the magistrate, they were sent to Salem prison under police custody the same day. Further investigations are ongoing.
