TechFW, Cowtown Angels and other local organizations team up for the inaugural Women & Wealth event
On May 20, TechFW, in partnership with Cowtown Angels, Texas Woman’s University – Center for Women Entrepreneurs, and Texas Women’s Foundation, plans to bring together women entrepreneurs and investors for the inaugural Women & Wealth event.
Investors and entrepreneurs will share the key moments, obstacles and decisions they have made in their careers during the event, which emphasizes education, connection and inspiration.
“Most venture capital decision-makers are men. They invest heavily in all-male teams. Since 2004, women-led businesses have “jumped” from 3% to 17% of all angel investments, ”Brandy O’Quinn, deputy director of TechFW, said in a statement. “It is imperative that we change this narrative. Bringing together women entrepreneurs and investors for education and inspiration hopefully creates momentum that strengthens connection points and ultimately increases dollars invested in women-led businesses.
Arlan Hamilton, founder and managing partner of venture capital firm Backstage Capital, will be the keynote speaker at the event.
The Dallas native started the business in 2015, which then raised more than $ 15 million and invested in around 175 companies, according to a statement. In her speech, she plans to discuss the landscape and the importance of women investing in women.
Backstage Capital’s mission is to “minimize funding disparities in technology by investing in high potential founders who are people of color, women and / or LGBT,” according to a statement. The Los Angeles-based company has launched acceleration programs in its hometown, as well as in Detroit, Philadelphia and London. He also created the Backstage Crowd funding platform to create a diverse and accessible VC deal flow.
Last year, Hamilton’s ArlanWasHere Investments invested $ 100,000 in the Dallas-based virtual football training app, Quarterback Equalizer. Hamilton also hosts the Your First Million podcast.
The Women & Wealth event will host a plethora of female business leaders, including:
